Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap if we faint not – Galatians 6:7-8

The Doctrine of Christ is clear, WE reap what WE sow, whether we’re Christians or we’re not. If WE sow to the flesh, WE’LL reap the wrath of God but if WE sow to the Spirit, WE’LL reap eternal life. That means WE’LL be judged based on what WE have done, not what the Lord Jesus Christ has done as many preach today. WE reap what WE sow, not what the Lord Jesus Christ sowed. If WE do evil, WE’LL reap evil; but if WE do good, WE’LL be rewarded with eternal life. WE’LL be judged on what WE do and not what the Lord Jesus Christ has done.

That also shows us that eternal life is not a matter of just believing. It’s something we sow good works towards and in the end we’ll reap what we sowed. We have to persevere in WELL DOING, meaning doing works in keeping with repentance, and not be weary in WELL DOING and in due season, when the Lord Jesus Christ returns, we shall reap eternal life, if we faint not. We have to persevere in doing good works but if we faint, meaning, if we give up and give in to the challenges of this life and do evil works, we’ll reap wrath not eternal life. Acts 26:20 says, ‘…repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance.’ Matthew 3:7 says, ‘Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance.

Works meet for repentance and fruit meet for repentance are one and the same thing. When we speak of doing works or bearing fruit meet for repentance many think we’re talking about doing things in our own strength. Far from it! John 15:5 says, ‘I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.’ We bear fruit meet for repentance or do works meet for repentance by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, not of ourselves. Without Him we can do nothing. He’s the One who gives us the ability to do works meet for repentance or to bear fruit in keeping with repentance for us to reap eternal life.

PRAYER

Father in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I pray that I may sow to the Spirit and not the flesh so that I may reap eternal life. Help me not to faint but to persevere in doing good works so that when the Lord Jesus Christ comes in His kingdom I may reap eternal life. Amen.
