For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God – Hebrews 10:30-31

The church has down-played the fear of the Lord for too long. They’ve erroneously preached it as holy reverence or mere respect for God because they don’t want to scare people. No wonder there’s so much sin in the church.

We fear God because of the threat of His judgment. We fear God because if we don’t repent of our sin, we’ll be judged with the wicked. Why else would He say, ‘God will judge his people. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God?’

2 Corinthians 5:10a-11a says, ‘For we must all appear before the JUDGMENT seat of Christ…Knowing therefore the TERROR of the Lord…’ The fear of the Lord is more than godly reverence, it’s terror, it’s being afraid of going to the lake of fire where there’ll be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Without the fear of the Lord, there can be no genuine repentance.

PRAYER

Father in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I pray that I may fear your judgment so that there may be genuine repentance in my life. Amen.
