SERIOUS DECISIONS, SERIOUS PRAYING

And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God. And when it was day, he called unto himself his disciples: and of them he chose twelve, whom also he named apostles – Luke 6:12-13

Before choosing the Twelve, the Lord Jesus Christ prayed all night. Instead of asking friends and colleagues, following His instincts, going with the flow, looking at CVs, checking social media posts or even interviewing the disciples, He prayed all night.

That goes to show you the Master’s approach to big decisions. He knew these men would be trusted with being the foundation of the church as apostles. The Lord therefore needed the Father’s plan and strategy since He’s the One who sent Him. He didn’t formulate his own plan and strategy and then ask the Father to bless it. If many had prayed all night before choosing a church, a spouse, a university, a career, an employer or a city to live in, they wouldn’t be in the mess they’re in right now.

Life is the Father’s idea. Like the Lord Jesus Christ, we ought to pray and ask for His plan and strategy before making big decisions. More than that, we shouldn’t pray about big decisions the way we pray for dinner. We have to spend considerable time in prayer and wait for the Father to give us the go ahead before we proceed. If the Lord Jesus Christ can pray all night before making a big decision, who are we to just name it and claim it? Who are we to just believe it and receive it in Jesus’ name? It’s time to get serious.

PRAYER

Father in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, help me to pray like the Lord Jesus Christ. Help me not to be lazy, but like the Lord Jesus Christ, put in considerable amount of time seeking your guidance before making big decisions. Amen.
