SAVIOUR AND JUDGE

Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off – Romans 11:22

God is both good and severe. He’s not just good but He’s also severe or stern. That’s why it’s wrong to just preach the goodness of God and never His severity.

The church believes in, and has presented to the world, a very one dimensional God who only loves, blesses and protects. But God is also a Judge. He shows His goodness to those who obey Him and His judgment to the disobedient.

That’s why when we preach the goodness of God, many clap for us and invite their friends to church. But when we preach the judgment of God, they feel condemned and look for another church. Christians need to grow up and accept that the Lord is not only a Saviour, but also a Judge. He’s not just a Lamb but a Lion as well. His throne is not only a throne of grace, but a judgment seat as well.
