RESPECT YOUR ELDERS
Just look at how many young Christians today regularly take to social media and openly rebuke their elders in the faith.
FAMILY FRIDAY
Rebuke not an elder, but entreat him as a father; and the younger men as brethren; the elder women as mothers; the younger as sisters, with all purity – 1 Timothy 5:1-2
Today’s youth lack respect for their elders. When we counsel them to humble themselves, they accuse us of ageism. They can rise up against their political leaders, who are old enough to be their parents, and address them as equals, even mock them.
No wonder many of them are cursed. But the lesson of respecting one’s elders must first be taught by the church. We have to teach our young people to regard older men as their own fathers and older women as their own mothers. Only then will we have authority to correct society.
Just look at how many young Christians today regularly take to social media and openly rebuke their elders in the faith. Some of these elders are wrong, yes, and do need to be confronted but let us be orderly and allow other elders to correct them, not their juniors in the faith. Don’t rebuke an elder but rather encourage them as you would your own parents. Let us be orderly.
PRAYER
Father in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I pray that the church may take its rightful place and show society how to behave. Help us to respect our elders in the faith so that the Doctrine of Christ may not be maligned. Amen.
