Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered – Luke 4:2

The Lord Jesus Christ was able to resist the devil’s temptation through fasting. Had the Lord not fasted for forty days, the relentless satanic onslaught of persistent temptation, day in and day out, from the devil would’ve been too much for Him. He therefore had to fast and pray during that time.

Many are quick to point out that the Lord Jesus Christ resisted the devil those forty days by quoting scripture. True, however, they neglect to mention that He did so on an empty stomach. It’s impossible to withstand brutal demonic assaults on three meals a day, all day, every day.

Many have been Christians for many years but have never even fasted one day. No wonder so many cannot resist temptation. There’s a direct correlation between sinning and refusing to fast. Christians who don’t fast always have a problem with sin. We’re disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ, our Master prayed and fasted to deal with temptation. He did so to leave us an example so that we may follow in His footsteps. It’s time to fast and pray to have the necessary spiritual fortitude to resist temptation.

PRAYER

Father in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, help me to walk in the footsteps of the Lord Jesus Christ. The Lord fasted and prayed to resist temptation, I want to be just like Him. Amen.
