PERILOUS TIMES

This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, lovers of money…lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God – 2 Timothy 3:1-2,4

The apostle Paul prophesied that perilous times would come, and they have, when people would be consumed with themselves, money and pleasure. That’s the spirit of the world which has crept into the church.

Today’s Christian uses the scriptures to justify selfishness, covetousness and pleasure-seeking. Consumed with lust, they scour the bible looking for verses that match their desires so as to confess them to get what they want.

To grow their churches, false teachers preach messages that reflect these desires and tell their listeners what their itching ears want to hear.

All they want to hear is that God loves them and that there’s grace to sponsor their lifestyle of sin. When we speak of repentance and obedience, they say we’re preaching works, condemning them and putting them under the law. They have a form of godliness and yet deny its power to deliver them from their sin. From such, apostle Paul says, turn away from.

PRAYER

Father in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, may I turn away from those who have a form of godliness and yet deny its power. Help me to love the Lord Jesus Christ and not self, money or pleasure. Amen.
