OBEY AND RISE
The rich young ruler was a rich and successful man because he honoured his parents.
YOUTH SATURDAY
Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise; That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth – Ephesians 6:1-3
Many young people think adding years to their life and doing well is something automatic or even just a product of education and hard work. Not necessarily. Life is spiritual. Life was created by a Spirit in the realm of the Spirit and is presided over by Spirits. To make it in life, you have to co-operate with God, the Spirit Who made life. There are Commandments given by the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ that govern life on earth. One of those Commandments is to honour your father and mother.
Mark 10:17,19 says, ‘And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life? Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother. And he answered and said unto him, Master, all these have I observed from my youth.’ The rich young ruler was a rich and successful man because he honoured his parents. He honoured God and God honoured him with a successful life.
If you want to rise in this world. If you want to make it in life. If you want to be known in the Corridors of Heaven, please God by obeying the Commandments of the Lord Jesus Christ. If you want things to go well with you, if you want to live long on the earth, honour your father and mother. 1 Peter 5:5a-6 says, ‘Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, so that in due time He may exalt you.’ When you humble yourself and obey your elders, you won’t have to exalt yourself. God Himself will make it His Mission to usher you to the top. He’ll commission Angels just to see to your rising in life. Honour your father and mother, and rise. That’s the Doctrine of Christ!
CONFESSION
I honour my father and mother, both spiritual and natural. That’s why all goes well with me and I live long on the earth. Glory to God!
