LIFE BY THE SPIRIT

RESURRECTION SUNDAY

But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you – Romans 8:11

The Holy Spirit raised the Body of the Lord Jesus Christ from the dead. The same Spirit will also raise our bodies from the dead and make them immortal when the Lord returns. However, the Spirit of God lives inside our bodies right now. Your body is the Temple of the Holy Spirit who dwells in you.

Not only will the Spirit give your body Life when the Lord returns, but He gives Life to our bodies in this world. He’s the Holy Spirit, He therefore gives Life to our bodies and empowers us to live a Holy Life in this fallen world. Romans 8:13 says, ‘For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.’ The Holy Spirit empowers us to put to death the misdeeds of the body. If we don’t mortify the deeds of the body, we’ll be judged with the wicked and die in the Lake of Fire.

By the Power of the Spirit, we subdue, deaden or mortify the power of sin over our sin-prone bodies. By the Power of the Spirit, we crucify the flesh with its sinful passions and lusts. This is what it means to live by the Spirit. When you live by the Spirit, you will not fulfil the lust of the flesh. We were not given the Holy Spirit to only speak in Tongues and manifest His Gifts, but to live a Life that’s holy and pleasing before God.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, help me to mortify the misdeeds of the body by the Spirit so that I may live and not die in the Lake of Fire. Amen.
