HUSBAND, TAKE YOUR WIFE’S COUNSEL

Even though the husband is the head of the wife, it doesn’t mean he must disregard her counsel

FAMILY FRIDAY

When he (Pilate) was set down on the judgment seat, his wife sent unto him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that just man: for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him – Matthew 27:19

Even though the husband is the head of the wife, it doesn’t mean he must disregard her counsel. Very often, when the husband is facing a difficult challenge, God will give the wife wisdom as to how he must approach it.

When Pilate was faced with a difficult judgment, God gave his wife a dream to help him judge rightly. Pilate had to decide between the Lord Jesus Christ, an innocent Man; and Barabbas, a notorious prisoner. If he released the Lord Jesus Christ, there would be a riot. If he released guilty Barabbas, it would please the Jews.

Pilate therefore took his wife’s advice and washed his hands of the Lord Jesus Christ’s blood. Instead of despising your wife’s counsel and dismissing it as lack of submission, rather pray about what she’s saying. You’ll be surprised that she’s hearing from God. You don’t have to make difficult decisions on your own. It’s not a sign of weakness to listen to your wife. She was given as a gift to you by God to help you after all.

PRAYER

Father in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I pray for husbands to realise that their wives are a gift to them. May they learn to humble themselves and take their wives’ counsel. Amen.
