FASTING AND PRAYING PROPHECIES THROUGH

…in the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, observed in the books the number of the years which was revealed as the word of the LORD to Jeremiah the prophet for the completion of the desolations of Jerusalem, namely, seventy years. So I gave my attention to the Lord God, to seek Him by prayer and pleading, with fasting, sackcloth, and ashes – Daniel 9:2-3

When Judah was in captivity in Babylon, the Prophet Daniel searched the Scriptures and discovered a Prophecy by Prophet Jeremiah regarding the end of their captivity. When he saw the Prophetic Word, he neither declared it nor confessed it. Daniel the Prophet gave his attention to God and sought Him in Prayer and pleading with Him through Fasting, sackcloth and ashes.

Two things: firstly, some Prophecies are conditional. Secondly, we need to pray conditional Prophecies through by humbling ourselves through fasting. Based on modern teaching, the Prophet should have said, ‘God said, I believe it and that settles it.’ He should have then walked away rejoicing and thanking God. But he didn’t. He fasted and prayed Prophet Jeremiah’s Prophecy through.

The reason many accuse genuine Prophets of being false is because they don’t fast and pray about the Prophecies they receive. Some Prophecies will come to pass based on the Prophet’s own Authority but some require us to fast and pray them through. It’s good to believe what the Prophets say to us but it’s often not enough to just believe. We need to also fast and pray our Prophecies through to see them come to pass.

PRAYER

Father in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I repent of my prayerlessness and lack of fasting things through. I now know that like Daniel the Prophet, I must fast and pray about what Your Prophets have said. Amen.
