DON’T FAST ONCE IN A WHILE, FAST OFTEN
The life and ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ were full of God’s grace because He fasted often
In weariness and painfulness, IN WATCHINGS OFTEN, in hunger and thirst, IN FASTINGS OFTEN, in cold and nakedness – 2 Corinthians 11:27
As a disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ, the apostle Paul walked in the footsteps of the Lord. He was often in prayer watches and he fasted often as well. Even though it’s not recorded in the scriptures, this tells us that the Lord Jesus Christ Himself fasted often since the apostle was following His example.
Many Christians don’t fast at all and those who do, do so only once in a while when their minister declares a corporate fast. Fasting humbles the human soul and God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. Christians who don’t fast usually have a serious problem with pride because they struggle with their flesh. The Christian life cannot be lived by human effort, we need God’s grace to do it. But when we’re full of food we’re usually full of ourselves. We need to humble ourselves, we need to fast.
The life and ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ were full of God’s grace because He fasted often. Great grace was upon the early church because they fasted often. If you want to see the grace of God in your life, humble your soul by fasting often. Boldly go to the throne of grace and obtain mercy and find grace to help in a time of need through fasting often. You don’t want God to resist you because of your pride, you want Him to give you His grace because of humility by fasting often.
PRAYER
Father in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I pray for the capacity to fast. More than that, I pray for the capacity to fast often so that I may walk in humility and find grace with You. Amen.
